About Us

About Us:

Overton Country Kennels is a small family owned and operated kennel.

Our goal is to provide excellent temporary care for your pet while you are away.

Since we are located right next door to Minot Air Force Base, a large part of our focus is to the needs of the military families, however we offer our services to all.

As a retired Air Force member/family, we have special insight into the needs of the military family and their unique needs for pet care. We especially understand the need for pet care during family emergencies / deployments / TDYs / and PCSs.

We take care of common household pets large and small and will make every effort to accommodate your needs.  However, as a general rule we do not take exotic pets of any kind (Snakes, Ferrets, Sugar Gliders, Hedgehogs, etc). We do not board birds.

We opened up a new 5000 sq foot kennel facility in May of 2012. All kennels are indoor with outdoor runs. The indoor runs are heated (floor heat). We provide everything except the dog and the food. Additionally, each kennel is separated by panels both inside and out so the dogs don’t normally see each other.

We live right here on the property so we do not have any set hours, and are usually here.

We do give the dogs lots of attention. Many times we walk dogs as a family also. We let them outside frequently, but as the weather gets colder, their outside time will depend largely on the dog and the weather for how long they will stay outside because it can get quite chilly here in North Dakota. BRRRRRR! In the spring through the fall we often leave the doors to the runs open so they can go in and out at will.

Current Rates as of 2024 (Dogs):

The rates depend on the kennels I have available.

My large kennels are 5 feet wide x 10 feet deep x 6 feet tall and can hold up to four lab size dogs comfortably (we do not mix dogs from other families). These are $29/night for the first dog and $18/night for each additional dog (kenneled together).

My regular size kennel are 5 feet wide x 5 feet deep x 6 feet tall and can hold up to two lab size dogs comfortably (again, we do not mix dogs from other families). All of my regular size kennels and smaller are somewhat cheaper at $24/night for the first dog and $18/night for each additional dog (kenneled together).

Check out time is 3PM. You may pick up before or after 3PM, but if you pick up after 3PM, then I charge an additional nights fee as a late clean-up fee.

Monthly rates are 10% off.*

All payments are due every month.

*Note: For any portions of months, I charge the FULL rate until it reaches the monthly rate, and then I do not go over the monthly rate (so the last few nights are at no charge).

Other Rates:

Cats – $15/night

Small daily fees may be assessed for additional services (such as vaccinations, insulin shots, additional feedings, etc.)

Pick up or drop off of dogs at Minot Air Force Base – $25

Pick up or drop off of dogs in Minot – $50

Pick up or drop off of dogs outside of these areas is based on mileage.

Insufficient fund checks – $40

Please make sure we know your accurate drop-off and pick-up dates. Early no-notice pick-ups or late no-notice drop-offs may be charged additional night’s fees. 48 hours notice or more is sufficient. This gives me time to get other dogs/cats scheduled into the other days/nights you do not need and prevents me from turning away customers that could have used those nights. (Many times I turn away other customers because I am short just 1 or two nights, so letting me know helps me as a business and helps other pet owners to be able to schedule their pet’s stays.)

Special Rates:

If you have emergency kennel needs, or are Military, Police, or First Responder and going on a emergency leave or family emergency, please call me (701-833-1193) and we can discuss special rates.

Dangerous Animals

We reserve the right to refuse services for any animal we feel may be harmful to ourselves, other pets, property, etc. We do not board any aggressive dogs.

Food

We only feed commercially available dog or cat food provided by the owners.  We do not take any animal on a raw food or people food diet. All food that we provide for the dogs must be available commercially and marketed specifically for dogs (or cats as applicable).

Check In/Out:

My normal drop off/pickup times are from 6am to 6pm. Special arrangements can be made on a case by case basis for drop off/pick up outside of those hours for hardship or unusual circumstances. (i.e. People traveling long distances to and from the airport, people picking up following the late flight into Minot, family emergencies, etc.) Drop off or pick up outside of those hours must be coordinated in advance.

Check out time is 3pm.  Any pickup after 3pm will be charged the following nights fee as a late clean-up charge.  As a courtesy to us, please call before you come out to drop off or pick up your dog.

Please note: If you will be dropping off/picking up or visiting outside of daylight hours, you MUST first contact us to let us know you are on your way.  We do not want people wandering around the property at night unannounced first.

Vaccinations:

Dogs must be current on Rabies and Bordetella.

Cats must be current on Rabies.

All animals must have a current flea and tick treatment Spring, Summer and Fall.

I do recommend all animals have all vaccinations recommended by the American Veterinary Association.
